Blue grama is a short native grass that produces attractive seedheads. It makes an excellent lawn substitute in sunny areas. It is often planted with buffalograss to create a sustainable alternative to turf grasses. It can also be planted alongside wildflowers to create a prairie landscape. It reaches about one foot tall when in full flower. Blue grama turns tan when dormant.
Blue grama can be used as turf, in a prairie or meadow landscape, or as an accent in a perennial garden.
