Cedar Sage adds a rare pop of color in shade gardens, with red tubular flowers that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. It prefers morning sun or bright dry shade, and grows well under trees as long as the fallen leaves are removed periodically. It is not hard to please, but it does need good drainage. Also, be sure to give cedar sage clear space to allow for the emergence of seedlings and new growth. As a bonus, it is deer resistant and its red flowers are edible.
