Texas Sotol is an evergreen, highly ornamental plant that is very drought and heat tolerant. It has long slender, spiny leaves and round, symmetrical form. It must have well-drained soil and full sun to do well. It tends to rot in heavy soils. Because of its spines, it should be planted away from traffic areas. It thrives in arid, rocky, limestone or sandy soils.

Texas Sotol is a wonderful addition to any xeriscape garden and can serve as an accent, planted en masse as large focal points or used in pots. Flowers attract hummingbirds.
