Illinois Bundleflower is a woody, bushy perennial featuring mimosa-like leaves that fold in strong sunlight and when touched. Ball-like flowers are small, whitish in color. Seedpods are leathery, twisted and quite ornamental. They make a good addition to dried arrangements.

As a legume, Illinois Bundleflower helps to build the soil. It is adaptable, and grows in a variety of soils, except for coarse sands and heavy clays. In nature, it is found growing alongside native warm season grasses such as Big Bluestem, Indiangrass, Switchgrass and Little Bluestem.

Illinois Bundleflower is foraged by rabbits and deer, and the seeds are eaten by birds such as Pheasants, Quail and Prairie Chickens.
